Mexico City weather is generally mild through out the year, is evenly distributed and is characterized by the distinctive lack of any extremities. Unlike the rest of the country, who experiences a more tropical, hot and humid type of weather, Mexico City weather remains mild thanks to its altitude. Situated at an impressive 2,300 meters above sea level, Mexico City’s unique geographical position also protect it from the effects of excessive winds and humidity.
Although during winter temperatures tend to fall, they only drop slightly hence the area enjoys an even weather pattern throughout the year, with an annual average temperature of 18°C (64°F). January is the coldest month of the year with frequent frosting especially during night time, when temperatures have been known to drop to freezing point. Winter runs between December and February with average temperatures of 20º C during the day. By contrast, April and May are the hottest months of the year, while summer’s pleasant and fine weather is frequently interrupted by sudden outbursts of rain. Needless to say summer is also considered to be the wet period, but thankfully although precipitations come in the form of torrential rain, after a couple of hours the clouds part letting sunshine filter through to help return Mexico City weather to its finest form.
The warm, sunny days last well into September, but by November chilly weather reigns supreme over Mexico City. Unfortunately, this is also the time when one of Mexico City weather biggest problems begins to rear its ugly head. Sitting in a valley surrounded on three sides by mountains that serve to trap contaminants produced by the metropolitan area's 15 million residents, Mexico City weather is unfortunately amongst the world’s most polluted urban areas.
